What is FALCPA?
The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) of 2004 is the U.S. law that identifies the eight most common food allergens and governs how their presence must be disclosed. Fragrance suppliers provide food allergen statements so formulators of lip products, food-adjacent goods, and household items can meet their own labeling obligations.
Why would a fragrance oil need a food allergen statement?
Some fragrance ingredients are derived from natural sources that could theoretically carry food-allergen proteins. A food allergen statement confirms whether any of the eight FALCPA allergen categories (or ingredients containing proteins derived from them) are present in the fragrance.
